When Catherine and Daniel gave birth to their first daughter, Elizabeth, they had decided that they only wanted one child. One child was easy to care for, easy to afford, and you never had to worry about your children fighting, because you only had one. These seemed like a great idea to the Aubertins’ and after Elizabeth was born Catherine went on birth control. For ten years the three lived a happy little life. Catherine taught at the school that Elizabeth attended, making rather good money for a teacher, as it was a private school, and Daniel was the mayor of Northhampton. The year Elizabeth turned five; Catherine got some rather shocking news. She was pregnant. She had a come apart on the doctor, claiming there was no way she could possibly be pregnant, as she was on birth control, and it took the doctor three times to try and explain that ever great once in a while, a person can get pregnant while on it. She wasn’t sure what to do. Daniel and herself really didn’t want this child, but with the position that Daniel held, she really couldn’t have an abortion or consider adoption. Really, how would that look for a man whose main platform was family? So, seven and a half months later, Charlotte Maya Aubertin was brought into the world.
Charlotte was an adorable little girl. She was the kind of baby that just drew people toward her, and would have random people stopping Catherine to give her compliments on what a beautiful baby she had. Growing up, Charlotte loved attention. She was often doing cutesy little things to get her parents approval, and sometimes even discipline. She had always been very close to her sister Jamie, but when Charlotte was ten, Elizabeth, being fifteen, started getting into drugs and paid less and less attention to Charlotte. She became hateful and rude to her, often calling her awful names and threatening her with violence if she told their parents what Jamie was doing. Charlotte started becoming withdrawn, and focused more on art and work. Soon her interest in art became very apparent, much to her mothers dismay. Catherine thought that Charlotte needed to focus more on her studies, to get her 3.9 up to a 4.0. Art was something that was for poor people without a future, she often said. Catherine had dreams for Charlotte to grow up and be a lawyer or a doctor. But Charlotte wasn’t having any of that. Her dreams revolved around art, and her mother began to loathe her for it. In high school she was the person that everyone labeled the ‘quiet loser’. She wasn’t really a loser, but she just didn’t say anything unless she felt it was necessary. She would doodle in her sketch pad before class started, rather than talk amongst her peers like most kids her age did. She went through school under the radar. She did her work, stayed out of trouble. She won a few art shows her senior year, again, much to her mother’s dismay.
In late April, her mother announced that she would like her daughter to attend a summer camp for future Ivy League college students. Little did her mother know that Charlotte had only applied to the local college. When her mother found out, she blew up, screaming about how Charlotte was throwing her life away. This blow up at Charlotte was shortly lived however, as a few days later her sister OD and ended up in the hospital. This was a very trying time for the Aubertins’. Her parents were disappointed in Charlotte because she knew, yet never said anything. This is what made her realize that keeping things like that from people were just as bad as lying to them. She vowed to never do that again, as she saw exactly what it can do to a person. She spent the next couple of weeks visiting her sister after school every day, and she was sad, yet understanding when her parents sent her sister off to Rehab.
May brought on graduation, and Charlotte was pleased that she would be attending the local university with her good friends, such as Addison. Her parents learned to accept that fact, and her mother even found the plus side. Now she would be able to keep an eye on her youngest daughter and try to have a hand in everything she did, since she failed miserably with Elizabeth. Charlotte had other news for her. Elizabeth was released from rehab, and talked Charlotte into moving into an apartment with her. The now twenty-three year old was planning on attending college as well, and she wanted Charlotte to help keep her on track. So for the first year of college, Charlotte and Elizabeth lived in an apartment together. At the end of the first year, Elizabeth found out she was pregnant. This caused an uproar with her parents again. They couldn’t believe that Elizabeth had fucked up again. Charlotte however was happy for her sister. She knew that Elizabeth loved Benjamin, and Benjamin was a good man. He had a steady job, and he asked Elizabeth to marry him the moment he found out that she was pregnant with his child. Around nine months later Carter Lennon Matthews was born. Charlotte honestly thought he was one of the most precious children she had ever seen. ( As her friend Kelley’s daughter Dayna was certainly among them as well) The wedding was set to take place right after Elizabeth lost the baby weight. So six months they moved all of Elizabeth’s things over to Benjamin’s house, and the wedding was the following Saturday. Charlotte asked Kelley to go as her date, since his daughter was the flower girl. That was probably the day that Charlotte realized she was developing feelings for the boy. Charlotte had the honor of watching Carter when Elizabeth and Ben went on their honeymoon. The third night, she had called Kelley, freaking out because Carter was running a temp and she couldn’t get it down. She was so grateful for the boy, as he came over with medicine for babies. She was definitely seeing how much he had changed from the boy he was in high school to the man he had become.
A few months later, the pair began to date, despite the fact that her mother was not pleased about it at all. Charlotte did not care what her mother thought though, she knew how Kelley was now, and her mother was judging him on how he used to be. Elizabeth loved the idea completely, and she had never been afraid to let them both know every chance she got. Charlotte was almost positive that most of it had to do with the fact that Charlotte dating Kelley meant that Dayna would be around more, as not only did Dayna have Charlotte completely wrapped, but she had Elizabeth wrapped even more. So they dated for a year and a half before Kelley asked her to move in with him and Dayna. Everyone was pretty excited about the move, or maybe she was just excited enough that it made everyone seem excited. So she gave up her apartment and moved her stuff over to Kelleys apartment. Things were amazing for the last six months. Charlotte was completely happy with her life. She considered Dayna her daughter, and it was apparent that Dayna felt the same way as she started calling Charlotte mom on her own.
Everything was perfect, that is until Kelleys ex, Kelsey, came back to town. Charlotte wasn’t stupid, she knew it was going to cause Kelley to think. And sure enough, after a few weeks of her being back, he came home and she knew something was wrong. He talked about being confused, and not knowing what he wanted. So they talked, and basically broke up. To be honest, Charlotte was the most heartbroken she had ever been, but she did her best not to show it when she packed her stuff into boxes and suitcases. She hugged Kelley and kissed Dayna goodbye, and moved back into her parents. Elizabeth had offered to let her move into the duplex that her and Benjamin were renting, but she didn’t feel right about it. After all, it was only two bedrooms, and it would be cramped. So she moved back into her parents house (thrilling them to death.) She misses Kelley like crazy, but at the same time she knows that this was something he needed to do for himself.

so, hey thurr! my name is sammie and i'm twenty years old! i know, right? my other kids on where the sidewalk ends are garret, myah, jersey, olivia and i've been roleplaying for many years, so i think i've got some talent. ... you don't believe me? psh. i can prove it~She wasn’t sure if she should answer his last question. But he had asked, and she always prided herself on being an honest person. “Maybe….Do I think that you have thought about what it might be like to go back to Kelsey? Yes, I honestly do. You would be a stupid and odd person if you have not thought about it. It is human nature Kelley, to wonder what might have been. Now your ‘what might have been’ has turned into a ‘what could be’. Any human would think about that. What you…what you need to do is decide what is going to make you happy, and what is best for you.,,” She let her sentence trail off, not really sure what to say anymore. She stared down at her feet as she felt the couch shift as he stood up and started pacing. Why did she have to go through this? What had she done to deserve it? She never thought she gave Karma a reason to strike her. She glanced up and noticed that Kelley wasn’t pacing anymore. Instead, he was sitting behind her, on the arm of the couch. She felt his hand on her shoulder as he talked. She exhaled slowly as he said he just needed to figure it out and pressed his lips to her head. What more was there to say? He basically ended the conversation. “I know you did not Kelley, I know…” she said softly, the words barely leaving her lips.
As she watched him walk across her kitchen, she stood up. She couldn’t let him leave without letting him know she would wait for him. Because she would. She loved the boy more than she thought it was possible to love a person. She wanted him to know she would still be there when he sorted stuff out, and that she would be until he didn’t want her there. Standing up, she watched him walk away, walk towards the door. “Kelley…You are right. It is probably for the best. If you need a break…I, I do understand. Take all the time you need Kelley, I will still be here if you decide to come back, no matter how long that takes.” she said, forcing the best smile she thought she could manage. Honestly, how she hadn’t started crying yet, she wasn’t sure. Maybe it was the fact that she had seen this coming. That probably had something to do with it. She watched his hand drop from the door knob, and at that moment she honestly wished she could read his mind, just so she could know what was going on in his head for once. The look on his face just killed her. She couldn’t stand how he looked so wounded and helpless. She hated seeing him going through his, and she hated the fact that she helped add to the confusion. She rubbed at her eye as a tear started to form. She wasn’t going to cry. At least not until Kelley had left and she watched him drive off. Then yes, she would let herself absolutely break down.
Hearing his voice again, she dropped her hand from her eye and she ran it through her hair, something she did when she was feeling stressed or confused…in this case both. Taking a breath, she did feel a little relieved when he said he didn’t want to break up. At least he hadn’t decided on that just yet. Hearing him say it wasn’t fair to her, she wanted to interject, to tell him to stop thinking about her for once and think about himself. He was forever thinking about everyone before himself. Of course it was something that the girl deeply admired about the boy, except for in this case. “Kelley, I am a big girl. Do not worry about what is and what is not fair to me. I learned a long time ago that life is not fair and you just have to deal with the cards that get dealt to you.” she said, giving him a slight smile again. The smile turned into a genuine one when she felt the boys arms around her shoulders and his head on hers. The smile was shirt lived though, as his next words caused a pain in her heart. She knew that she could never be the one to break things off. She was willing to deal with him doubting whatever he was doubting. She wrapped her arms around his waist for a moment in a hug before she stepped out of his arms. Taking her hand she reached up and placed her hand on his cheek, rubbing her thumb across it as she talked. “Never in a million years would I want that Kelley. I only want what is best for you, and what is going to make you truly happy in the end. Your and Dayna’s happiness is all that concerns me. If after you think you decide that maybe I am not the person you want, as long as it would make you the happiest you can be, I would find a way to be okay with that. But if you decide that staying with me was the best choice, then that is even better. Just make sure you are doing this for you. Do not hold Kelsey to her past. People make mistakes, and I truly think she realizes just what hers cost her. You are an amazing person Kelley. I just want you to know that. Know that I love you, I am here for you, even if you just need a friend.”
She leaned up and kissed his chin, as, with her height that was about what she could reach. She swiped at her eyes again, just to make sure that they weren’t about to betray her. She was trying hard to stay level about this. To not just completely breakdown like her heart wanted to. She wasn’t going to cry and beg him not to leave her. She wouldn’t do that. Or maybe she would. She felt something streak down her cheek, then another, then another. She did not want to cry in front of him. That was the last thing he needed. Why couldn’t she wait ten more minutes? Ten more minutes and Kelley would have been well on his way home. He wouldn’t have to witness her being weak. Dropping her hand from his face, she swiped at her cheek and turned away from him as her shoulders started to shake. Damn, she wasn’t going to let him see her cry. It had to be painfully obvious though. Without saying another word to him, because she knew she couldn’t keep her voice level, she walked away from him. She walked back into the living room, and crashed on the couch. Her back still facing away from him. Pulling her legs back up to her chest, she buried her face in them and just let her self cry softly.
